Located in Shelby County Alabama, The Cahaba Valley Fire
and EMR District provides fire suppression and emergency medical services
including transport to approximately 17,000 customers. Responding from
four stations, the men and women of CVFD answer
more than 1000 calls for assistance each year. The
department's response area is a mix of residential and commercial property
located in the northern section of the county. CVFD provides protection to
several subdivisions including Brook Highland,
Highland Lakes, Eagle Point, Shoal Creek, The
Narrows, Smyers
Lake, Fowler Lake, Holly Brook Lake, and to the town
of Mt. Laurel.
The CVFD originated as a volunteer fire department and
became a department combined of paid professionals and volunteers in the late
1980's. Today, there are
16 full-time employees,
7
volunteers, and
12 with the Resident "Live-in" Program that trains
firefighters for professional certification.
The Fire District is governed by a five member Board of
Trustees who are residents of the Fire District. The Board members are elected
to four year terms and serve without compensation. One regular meeting
is held each month on the second Wednesday at
7:00 P.M. at the
Mt.
Laurel Fire
Station at 60 Manning Place. Occasionally, special meetings are
required and notice of these meetings is posted on the bulletin board of each
Cahaba Valley Fire Station. All meetings of the Cahaba Valley Board of Trustees
are open to the public.
