One set will be reviewed and returned to contractor or responsible party at issuance of permit . This reviewed set must be kept on job site at all times. Plans shall be drawn neat, straight lines, and to scale. Construction of exterior walls of dwellings and accessory buildings less than 5 feet from property line must be designed using Table R 302.1. In areas governed by Architectural Review Committees, please contact your ARC for further requirements.

Contact the Health Department at (205) 685-4178 for any and all work performed on restaurants, limited food services, mobile food services, schools, pools, day cares, or hotels / motels. One set of plans may be required.
Any and all new construction projects, along with additions, remodels, renovations, electrical service upgrades, tenant build outs, moved homes, manufactured homes, recreational vehicle connections, plumbing, gas, and mechanical installations, and other projects, are required to purchase a building permit.
Pursuant to the Alabama Energy and Residential Codes (AERC) Board under the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs Rule 305-2-4-.08 “Commercial Energy Code” and 305-2-4-.09, “Residential Building and Energy Code”, Shelby County will begin enforcement of the International Residential Code 2015 Edition and the International Energy Code 2015 Edition with the amendments as promulgated by the AERC Board for all permit applications submitted after January 1, 2017.

Construction Industry Training Fee:
Pursuant to State of Alabama Act 2015-308, a fee of one dollar for every one thousand dollars of construction authorized shall apply to any non-residential building permit.
